We rescue, rehabilitate, and release sick, orphaned, or injured wildlife. This includes:
• Wild birds: owls, eagles, hawks, herons, cranes, and songbirds and more
• Wild mammals: possums, raccoons, squirrels, foxes, and armadillos and more
• Turtles and tortoises: gopher tortoises, sliders, snappers, and box turtles and more
• Reptiles: snakes and alligators and more
Essentially, if it is a native Florida species, we can help, or we can help you find someone who will.
Who We Are
Owl’s Nest was founded by Kris Porter, a zoologist, lifelong animal lover, and dedicated conservation leader.
Kris studied Zoology at the University of Florida and has spent the last six years on the UF Biology Circle of Excellence Board. Before founding Owl’s Nest, she ran the Busch Gardens Animal Nursery, raising and caring for all of the 327 species housed there during her 12‑year tenure.
From rescuing injured owls and hawks to bottle‑feeding orphaned squirrels, Kris has built a sanctuary grounded in science, hands-on fieldwork, and deep respect for Florida’s natural legacy.
We are entirely funded by your donations. We do not receive any federal or state aid for rescuing or rehabbing native Florida wildlife.
Our goal is to reduce human impact on Florida’s native wildlife through rehabilitation, education, and teamwork.
